Here's how Singer Magazine reviewed the CD (Nov/Dec 2004):
“As is true with most holiday collections, Remember Emmanuel consists mostly of songs you know by heart. So, the uniqueness in this recording is found much more in the arrangements–vocal and instrumental, than the music itself. The backgrounds are soft as a winter snowfall, with a lot of emphasis on flute, oboe and nylon-stringed acoustic guitar. The effect is a delivery that’s very personal, meditative and soothing. By drawing on a variety of styles, including folk, jazz, and Latin, the vocalists are able to present a very colorful holiday offering that remains interesting track after track. Among the ten tracks are two tunes you may not be familiar with. The first is “Mary, Did You Know,” written by comedian Mark Lowry and Buddy Green, and recorded by Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd. That version notwithstanding, the Pinto/Torzewski/Westbay rendition on this CD is among the best I’ve heard. It’s a beautiful song and this trio does it extremely well. The second is a very expressive re-telling of the Christmas story entitled “As If Time Stood Still,” by Jim Westbay. Overall, this is an exemplary recording and a highly recommendable addition to your holiday collection. –RL
